SHIRT FABRICS

A good choice of fabrics defines how a shirt will look. YOUTAILOR offers you shirts made from the finest yarns. All shirts are easy-care.

  • Poplin (plain-coloured)
  • Twill (plain-coloured)
  • Oxford (plain-coloured)
  • Classical pin-stripe designs
  • Formal white

The shirt fabric selection varies: depending on the season stripes, checks and other patterns are available. YOUTAILOR offers a wide range of selected and top-end quality fabrics. Each of them has its own unique characteristics. In the following glossary you will find an overview of certain characteristics of our fabrics.

FABRIC GLOSSARY
POPLIN

Poplin is a fabric made from particularly dense plain weave cotton. The fabric is slightly ripped, since the warp thread is tightly held compared to the weft thread in the weaving process, which makes the fabric very sturdy. Poplin is an all-rounder – poplin shirts and blouses can be worn at any occasion.

TWILL (TWILL WEAVE)

Twill (also twill weave) is alongside satin and plain weave one of the basic weaves for woven fabrics. Twill is easily recognisable as the ridge of the fabric is diagonal.

OXFORD

Oxford is a coarser type of weave that produces soft flowing but sturdy shirt fabrics. Here, dyed and non-dyed yarns are interwoven and display a honeycomb structure. Oxford fabrics can be combined in many ways. However oxford weaving patterns are less subtle and formal than poplin.

HERRINGBONE

Weaving a herringbone pattern is performed by changing the offset direction every few wefts. This gives a fine zig-zag pattern.
